Advisor to the CEO of INESSS, Alliances and Networks

Image Dr. Reiner Banken obtained his medical degree from the Université de Montréal, where he also earned a master’s degree in community health. A consultant/researcher at AETMIS since 1998, he held the position of deputy general director of Development and Partnerships from July 2005 to April 2009. He worked as an emergency physician for five years and as a specialist in public health for 12 years, including serving as the public health director for Québec’s Laurentian region.

Author of several publications and a sought-after speaker in the field of public health, Dr. Banken also serves often as a consultant to international organizations such as the European Centre for Health Policy and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a division of the World Health Organization (WHO).

From July 2007 to June 2009, Dr. Banken was president of Health Technology Assessment international (HTAi), an organization whose mission is to support the development, dissemination, understanding and use of health technology assessment around the world. He was also president of the organizing committee for HTAi’s 5th Annual Meeting, which was hosted by AETMIS in July 2008.

Since April 2009, Dr. Banken has been a member of the WHO's advisory committee on health technology. He was the associate general director of External Affairs, Partnerships and Networks at AETMIS, and is now the Advisor to the CEO of INESSS, Alliances and Networks.
